The sun is out, the birds are singing and the weather is
just right. Perfect for swimming, boating, fishing or just lying around soaking
up the rays.... YEAH RIGHT! This is summer time. The boys and girls are
thinking, NO SCHOOL, NO HOMEWORK and BASEBALL. No, LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL!
Todays game, the Giants hosting the first place White Sox, was one of the
best...no...THE best game of the year!
This was the making of future Cy Young and Gold Glove
recipiants. Major League Baseball Style.
Christian Utne started it off for the Chi Sox with a single. Cody Gentry hit a
grounder to second and the Giants' Thomas Herman, with quick thinking, tagged
out the charging Christian on his way to second. The side retired a little
later.
In the bottom of the first, the Giants' Bryce Pamer and Nathan Stratton both
singled. At the end of the first the score was deadlocked 0-0.
The second inning was very quiet for both teams. The Giants' Thomas Herman had
the only hit of the inning, a single.
The White Sox's Cody Gentry pitched two full innings allowing only three hits,
no runs and posted two strike outs. Cody also threw out two Giants in the second
inning from the mound.
The Giants' Isaac Taylor also pitched two full innings allowing two hits, no
runs and posted five strike outs. At the end of two innings, still tied 0-0.
McKinzie Benham singled to start off the top of the third for the Sox but was
left stranded on base in the end.
Joey Bursey and Ethan Angella both singled for the Giants in the third but were
left on base when the inning was over. At the end of three full, score 0-0.
The fourth inning appeared to be the break out inning the White Sox were hoping
for. Christian Utne singled (second hit), followed by hits by Conner Burr and
Cody Gentry (second hit). The bases were loaded with no outs. Nathan Stratton of
the Giants struck out the next two batters, then received great help from his
teammate Joey Bursey when Joey caught a infield pop up to end the inning before
the Sox could score.
Nathan Stratton (second hit) singled and was sent to second by Daniel Scott's
sacrifice hit. The White Sox's Christian caught a pop up and then turned and ran
down Nathan to end the fourth inning. The score still deadlocked at 0-0.
Mathew Horin singled to start off the fifth inning for the Sox. Giants closer,
Lauren Schmidt, retired the next three Sox, posting all strike outs.
Isaac Taylor singled to try and get the Giants going. Lauren Schmidt reached
first when she was hit by the ball (she is a big trooper on the Giants roster).
Angel Castro and Joey Bursey both singled. Isaac scored on the single by
Joey(finally a run scored). The White Sox Conner Burr retired the next two
Giants, posting strike outs. At the end of five full, and the end of the game,
the Giants edge out a 0-1 score.
Good luck to all the teams in your very own "Play Offs". Folks, please come out
and see these fine young men and women play some of the most exciting Little
League Baseball on the planet.
