Concord American Baseball
Game Summary Junior Division
Concord Giants vs CV Red Sox - April 16, 2005
Giants 14 - Red Sox 10

On a beautiful spring-like afternoon, the Giants were able to beat a worthy opponent with consistent, clutch hits coupled with aggressive base running.

The Red Sox led off with a couple of runs in the 1st inning.  The Giants countered with 2 of their own on 2 hits. Craig Doiron smashed the first  pitch he saw into the outfield. Seth Chatterley drove him home and eventually came around to score on a series of stolen bases.

The Red Sox came back hard again in the 3rd as they batted through their entire lineup, scoring 4 and leaving 2 on base. A highlight reel moment came on the 2nd out when catcher Kris Garcia was able to put out the runner on a closely contested play at the plate. The Giant’s lead-off batter, Paloma Woods, scored the Giant’s only run off of Kris Garcia’s smash double. Paloma sprinted home in spite of the Red Sox best efforts to throw her out.

The Sox scored again in the 4th, but the Giants countered with 2 of their own as Seth Chatterley and Mitchell Moore scored when Tony Quinonez powered a massive double into leftfield.

The 5th Inning proved decisive as the Red Sox stranded two base runners and failed to score while Giants scored 9 runs off 12 batters, retiring 2 Red Sox pitchers in the process. Most reached base on walks, but there were two notable extra base hits by both Craig Doiron and Josh Keane, Kris Garcia, Seth Chatterly, Luis Corral, Jerrod McHenry, Javier Benavente, Tony Quinonez, and Dylan McEachran all scored runs. Josh managed to score twice that inning. Some might consider his last at-bat a solid double into the outfield followed by a couple of Red Sox errors, but Giants’ faithful know an in-the-park home run when they see one.

The Red Sox managed to keep the suspense going by playing hard and scoring a couple of runs in the 6th and another in the 7th but it wasn’t enough to catch the Giants on this day.
