The opening game for both teams was highlighted by excellent pitching.  Joey Horvot and Conor Harrington each pitched three scoreless innings for the Cardinals.  Justin Staton of the Yankees went four innings without giving up a hit.

The Cardinals scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth when Christain Kaplan reached first on an error and was pushed to third by a line drive single by Willy Rego.  With two outs, Josh Keane placed a hit to right field that scored Christain from third.
