The Braves had strong pitching from Ray Buford, who pitched 3 innings of 1-hit, 2-run ball. The Astros made a strong comeback attempt in the top of the 5th to get the score back to 12-7, but were unable to make much more of dent into the lead that the Braves were able to build through the first three innings. Mark Cosgrove led the Braves going 2 for 3, a walk, and scoring 3 runs. He also had an outstanding double play to stop a rally attempt in the fourth inning. Christian Saylor pitched 2 strong innings giving up only 2 runs and helped his causse by slamming a triple to deep left field that cleared the bases.
